Wart Removal Treatment - Brisbane
How does Wart Removal Treatment work?
At Carina Medical and Specialist Centre, doctors in our clinic prefer to use cryotherapy (otherwise known as cryosurgery) for wart, skin tag or skin lesion removal. Cryotherapy is a very common treatment used for this type of lesion or wart removal, which works by freezing the wart using extremely cold temperatures. During your treatment, your doctor will freeze any warts or skin tags using pure liquid nitrogen. With our Cryotherapy treatment, a special applicator will be used to pinpoint and freeze the wart, causing the cells within the wart to be destroyed and the wart to inevitably fall off.
Your doctor or specialist will perform three liquid nitrogen applications in your wart removal appointment. Each application will last between 20-30 seconds, which varies based on the size of the wart. It is a quick and simple appointment, and doctors and patients have reported overwhelming success with various types of warts and lesions.
What happens after my Wart Removal Treatment?
You may find after your wart removal treatment that a blister or red skin may appear around the site. In the days following your appointment, you’ll most likely notice that both the wart and blister heals up or disappears entirely. For some patients, warts will re-emerge or partially remain, and in this case, additional cryotherapy sessions may be needed.
Can anyone undergo Cryotherapy for Wart Removal?
As mentioned, cryotherapy is generally safe for most individuals. However, certain conditions or circumstances may require precautions or alternative treatment options. It’s important to speak to your doctor or specialist about any medical conditions, allergies, or medications you are taking before undergoing cryotherapy.
Is Cryotherapy for Wart Removal effective?
Cryotherapy is an effective treatment for many types of warts. The success rate will depend on factors such as the size, location, and type of wart being treated. Some stubborn or large warts may require multiple cryotherapy sessions for complete removal.

Wart Removal Treatment FAQs
While cryotherapy can be effective for wart removal, there are other treatment options available as well, such as topical medications, laser therapy, or surgical removal. The choice of treatment depends on various factors, including the size, location, and type of wart, as well as individual preferences and medical considerations. It is advisable to consult with your doctor to determine the most suitable treatment approach for your specific situation.
Results will vary and this will depend on the individual and which type/size of wart is being treated. In some cases, the wart may require multiple cryotherapy treatments spread over several weeks for complete wart removal. Your consulting doctor or specialist can provide an estimate of the expected treatment duration based on your specific situation.
Doctors at Carina Medical and Specialist Centre provide our patients with specific aftercare instructions following wart removal treatments. Some suggestions include keeping the treated area clean and dry, avoiding picking or scratching the treated area, and protecting it from direct sunlight. In some instances, your treating doctor may also recommend applying an over-the-counter ointment and covering the area with a bandage or bandaid, depending on its size.
Wart removal treatment will involve freezing your wart with liquid nitrogen (during cryotherapy) and may cause a stinging or burning sensation. This discomfort usually subsides fairly shortly after the treatment is completed. Some patients may experience mild pain or discomfort afterwards, which can be managed with paracetamol or other over-the-counter pain relievers.
In most cases, you can resume your regular activities such as work immediately after cryotherapy. As you will have a sensitive treatment area, however, you should be considerate of activities you choose to undertake, as your skin heals. It's also important to follow any specific post-treatment instructions provided by your treating doctor or specialist.
